OH.NO.SUMO
OH.NO.SUMO was established in Auckland (New Zealand) in early 2009 by James Pearce, Patrick Loo, Katherine O’Shaugnessy and Sarosh Mulla. OH.NO.SUMO started as a creative outlet for four friends graduating from the architecture school at the University of Auckland and soon transformed into a design collective exploring many avenues of design and creative work. OH.NO.SUMO aims to push the boundaries of conventional design practice and allows for uninhibited design freedoms through creative thinking and active participation.
From early success in competitions, such as NZ SUPERSTUDIO 08 and working on a range of conceptual, spatial and installation projects such as SOUNDWAVE, 20under40 and MOSAIC, OH.NO.SUMO have expanded into experiential design through event hosting such as the LIGHT and BUBBLE party projects. OH.NO.SUMO has also been able to extend its design reach into various other fields including Graphic Design, Branding and Web Design, by working with other creative individuals, as seen in the portfolio website for BROWN DAY GROUP. OH.NO.SUMO actively compete in national and international design competitions, while also nurturing the exploration of personal design interests such product and industrial design.
All members of OH.NO.SUMO have tutored to some degree, at Universities across Auckland, encouraging creative thinking in the next generation of designers and keeping their finger on the pulse of modern design trends. The team also involve themselves in many other design and architecture events, using their skills to help give back to the community where possible.
